Griet Spanhove

Co-founder of Michael Chekhov Europe (MCE) and Compagnie Curious

Theatre maker, director, actress, and passionate teacher, with a broad background in physical theatre, clowning, contemporary dance, and the Michael Chekhov acting method.

The archetype of the clown runs as a red thread through her work and her way of being in life: an attitude of openness, vulnerability, playfulness, and honesty. From this essence, she explores — as both an artist and a coach — the boundary between play, text, body, imagination, and intensity.
Griet combines creating and directing with coaching performers and professionals, strongly focusing on artistic growth, imagination, freeing authentic playfulness, and transformation.

The clown as an inner source — one that dares to fail, to play, and to respond outside the box — is a central starting point. She believes every human being carries a clown within: a part that is spontaneous, playful, curious, and unfiltered.
In her coaching and artistic work, it is not about “playing a clown,” but about freeing this inner quality. This requires courage: the willingness to let go of control, to fail, and to be seen in your purity.

Griet regularly participates in international workshops, theatre, and dance productions to deepen and expand her performative language. She is known for her inspiring, intuitive, and profound approach, guiding performers toward more imagination, playfulness, physical and conscious presence, authenticity, and transformation.

WHERE DOES THE WORKSHOP TAKE PLACE?

BARaGAR
Westernieuwweg 76,
8490 Varsenare (5 km from Bruges), Belgium

BARaGAR is not just a beautiful setting — it becomes an active part of your creative process.
“GAR” refers to the French word “gare”, meaning train station, where thousands of people once departed, arrived, and began their stories.
Today, that energy lives on in a new form.
The station has been transformed into a vibrant creative hub for meeting and creation.

Brugge die skone

Just five kilometers from the historic center of Bruges, BARaGAR offers a unique combination of tranquility, inspiration, and cultural richness.
During the workshop, we will draw inspiration from the atmosphere of the city.
At the same time, we will explore the surrounding nature. We will venture into the open fields — a green environment that invites slowing down, deepening, and free creation.

And with the Belgian coast and Ostend nearby, you can feel the breath of the sea.
All natural elements present become part of the process.
